With the ever increasing demand for greater bandwidth in all forms of broadcast media, there comes a time when existing components are simply unable meet the demands.  This situation occurred when a leading TV equipment manufacturer needed to connect between PCBs inside a new High Definition camera.

The requirement was for a micro-miniature True 75 ohm ‘board to board’ and ‘board to cable’ interconnect system, no standard product existed that would meet the challenging RF performance and available space constraints.    Being known for their strong and creative presence in this market, COAX Connectors were approached with a request to develop a solution.

COAX Connectors solution was to create the smallest ever True 75 ohm interface, the 0.4/2.5 series.  The surface mounted plug and jack allow PCBs to be spaced 8mm between surfaces and a right angle cable jack with a mated height of only 10mm make up the series.  PCB connectors can be supplied in tape and reel or loose and the cable connector will fit a miniature 75 ohm cable.

  • Low loss to 3GHz
  • Exceeds SMPTE 292/HD-SDI
  • Light weight
  • PCB Plug height 3mm, Ø 4mm
  • PCB Plug height 7.5mm, Ø 6mm
  • Surface mount PCB connectors
  • Gold plated contacts
  • Orientation flat to aid pick and place

The new 0.4/2.5 connector series has allowed the camera manufacturer to incorporate True 75 ohm interconnect into their system reducing both space and cost.
