Drop Cable Selection Rules
G.657.A1/A2 bend-insensitive fiber is commonly considered for subscriber routes with tighter bends than outside-plant backbone cable. Strength member, cable shape and jacket should be selected by route, fire boundary, outdoor exposure and attachment method.
Aerial Hardware Matching
The clamp and hook are part of a mechanical system. Confirm cable diameter, shape, messenger construction, span, expected tension, wind or ice condition, corrosion environment and mounting substrate.
Testing and Field Restoration Logic
Suggested records include subscriber ID, distribution-box port, cable type and length, connector polish, optical power or insertion-loss result, VFL continuity check, route inspection, photos and completion date.
FAQ
What should a basic FTTH installation kit include?
At minimum, it normally requires a matched drop cable, termination point, connector or patch cord and route-specific fixing accessories. Testing and labeling requirements should also be defined.
Should the kit use a fast connector or fusion splice?
Use the operator-approved termination method. Fast connectors can reduce the need for fusion equipment, while fusion-spliced pigtails may offer a different maintenance and performance model.
Can one clamp fit every flat drop cable?
No. Cable dimensions, messenger, material and mechanical load must match the clamp design.
What is the difference between an installation kit and a restoration kit?
An installation kit is packaged per new subscriber or crew. A restoration kit emphasizes compatible repair lengths, connectors, small boxes, patching, test accessories and replenishment control.
