Application Fit and Link Architecture
This architecture fits fixed indoor industrial devices, smart-building controllers, compact equipment cabinets and protected camera installations that require an RJ45 interface and a shielded copper path. It is useful where there is no service benefit in installing an outlet and separate equipment cord at the endpoint.
The rack side uses a shielded modular panel and jack. At the device side, the ZC-603S-1-C6A-B1 terminates the horizontal cable directly. The field plug is an indoor connectivity component; the installation enclosure, gland, surge protection and environmental cable construction are selected separately according to the site.
Selected Shielded MPTL Bill of Materials
The following combination keeps category and shielding intent consistent from the rack to the endpoint. Cable jacket selection changes with the installation environment, but the connector family remains matched to the conductor and shield construction.

|---|---|---|---|
| Horizontal cable | ZION 7112316 | Cat6A F/UTP, 23 AWG solid bare copper, 0.57 ± 0.005 mm conductor, LSZH, published data through 500 MHz | Indoor protected industrial run |
| Rack-side jack | ZCTLKJF6A-B1 | Cat6A FTP toolless jack; zinc-alloy shield; 22–24 AWG solid wire | Shielded termination in panel |
| Shielded panel | ZCPPF6A-1U24-KJ-B1 | 19-inch 1U, 24-port modular shield-compatible panel with rear cable management | Rack organization and bonding interface |
| Rack patch cord | 7241011 | Cat6A S/FTP, 28 AWG stranded copper, 500 MHz, LSZH, cable OD 6.0 ± 0.2 mm | Switch-to-panel connection |

Shielded Field Plug Details and Fit Checks
The ZC-603S-1-C6A-B1 is a shielded Cat6A toolless RJ45 field plug with a zinc-alloy body. Its published cable range covers solid and stranded conductors in 22, 23 and 24 AWG. Electrical values include 20 mΩ contact resistance, insulation resistance of ≤500 MΩ at 100 V DC and DC 1000 V / AC 700 V RMS withstand voltage for one minute.
The 23 AWG conductor of 7112316 is within the published gauge range. Final mechanical approval also requires the current cable OD, insulation diameter, shield-folding method and strain-relief range. The termination instruction should identify how the foil and drain wire are captured so that installers can reproduce the shield contact.
| Selection item | Selected specification | Required confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor gauge | 23 AWG solid | Inside the plug's published 22/23/24 AWG range |
| Shield type | F/UTP cable and shielded plug | Foil and drain-wire termination method |
| Cable OD | Production-dependent | Match current plug entry and strain-relief drawing |
| Endpoint clearance | RJ45 equipment interface | Check plug length, bend space and enclosure depth |
| Environmental protection | Project-dependent enclosure | Confirm dust, moisture, UV, vibration and surge requirements |
Cable Jacket and Environmental Protection
Model 7112316 provides an LSZH jacket for protected indoor routes. Where a North American riser rating is required, 7112314 provides an F/UTP Cat6A CMR alternative. Wet, UV-exposed or direct-buried routes require an outdoor cable construction and a transition plan before the cable enters the indoor equipment area.
Industrial MPTL design must also account for vibration, contaminant exposure, washdown, temperature, connector access and service movement. A standard RJ45 field plug can be installed inside a suitable industrial enclosure; it does not replace an IP-rated gland, sealed coupler or ruggedized industrial connector where those protections are specified.
Acceptance Testing and Project Records
Acceptance starts with a controlled BOM: cable production code, panel, rack-side jack, field-plug revision, rack patch cord and any enclosure hardware. Record the wiring scheme, installed length, bonding method and device identifier for every direct-connected endpoint.
The completed MPTL should be tested using the project-defined Cat6A method and compatible test adapters. PoE projects additionally require confirmation of device power class, conductor resistance and unbalance, bundle conditions, ambient temperature and connector current capability. For exposed camera links, document the enclosure, grounding and surge-protection arrangement alongside the data-link test.
The ZION article on field plugs versus keystone jacks can help determine whether a direct connection or a serviceable outlet is better for each endpoint.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this shielded field plug be installed on 26 AWG cable?
The published range for ZC-603S-1-C6A-B1 is 22, 23 and 24 AWG. A 26 AWG application needs a plug specification and test record that explicitly include 26 AWG.
Does the zinc-alloy plug body make the connection weatherproof?
No. The metal body provides shielding and mechanical protection, not an environmental seal. Outdoor or wet locations require a suitable enclosure, gland and cable construction.
What information is needed before approving the industrial MPTL?
Confirm cable OD and insulation diameter, conductor gauge, enclosure dimensions, device socket orientation, power class, grounding method, installed length and the required test limit.
